Brief Introduction to Prof. Cao Yingyi

1939年生于安徽铜陵,籍贯南京。自幼随书画名家赵良翰先生习书画,1961年毕业于南京师范学院美术系,期间师从傅抱石、陈之佛、杨健候、吕斯百、秦宣夫等先生习中西绘画。后于书法上受教于林散之先生;于水墨绘画上受教于亚明、宋文治先生。

 

现为:中国美术家协会会员;江南诗书画院特邀研究员,常州书画院名誉画师;敦煌市美术家协会名誉主席,敦煌市文学艺术界联合会名誉顾问;美国里海大学艺术系客座教授,美国爱达荷大学艺术系客座教授;江苏省美术教育学会副会长暨学术委员会主任,江苏教育学院美术系教授。

 

画家作品多次入选全国美展及国际美展展出、收藏并获奖。1988年获香港“中国画大奖赛”金奖。1995年获台湾 “国际文人画家作品展”极品奖。1999年获由联合国新闻处教科文组织的韩国汉城“国际教授级美术作品展”金奖等。

 

出版个人画集有《意象江南》、《敦煌》、《曹英义中国画选集》、《曹英义速写选》、《俯牛斋题画诗草》;出版艺术论著有《中国画技法与教学》、《速写范画》等。

 

画家传略为中国美术家协会《中国美术年鉴1949年-1989年》、《中国美术家协会会员辞典》、《中国文艺家传集:美术部份》、《中国当代名人录》、英国剑桥国际传记中心《世界艺术家名人录》、美国传记学会《世界艺术家终生成就奖》收录。

 

代表作收入《1949-1999年江苏美术五十年中国画集》、《首届中国美术家协会会员中国画精品集》、《婺源行—中国画作品集》、《中国当代名家书画集》等收录。

 

画家三度应邀以访问学者身份赴美国讲学,举办个人画展。他在艺术上的成就受到美国政府和艺术界诸多表彰,荣获美国宾夕法尼亚洲伯利恒市“荣誉市民”称号,“1990年美国西部九位文化名人”称号,美国南卡罗纳州哥伦比亚市“城市金钥匙”等。2008年应邀以中国画家身份赴德国科隆市成功举办个人画展。

 

Prof. Cao Yingyi was born in Tongling, Anhui Province, in 1939. His hometown is Nanjing. Ever since childhood, he started learning Chinese calligraphy and painting from Mr. Zhao Lianghan. In 1961, he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Nanjing Normal University. During the college time, Fu Baoshi, Chen Zhifo, Yang Jianhou, Lv Sibai, Qin Xuanfu and many other teachers taught him Chinese and western painting. Later, Lin Sanzhi gave him lectures on Chinese calligraphy and Ya Ming and Song Wenzhi taught him painting.


After graduation, he was assigned as the art teacher in Changzhou No. 4 Middle School. In 1971, he prepared and established Fine Art Department in Changzhou Normal College. Later, he took the position of Senior Lecturer. In 1990, he built Fine Art Department in Jiangsu Education Institute, and was appointed as Dean and professor.


He is member of Association of Chinese Artists, specially appointed research fellow of Jiangnan Poem, Calligraphy and Painting Academy, honorary painter of Changshou Calligraphy and Painting Institute, honorary Chairman of Association of Dunhuang Artists, and honorary Chairman of Dunhuang Federation of Literature and Art, Academic Committee member of Dunhuang Painting and Calligraphy Academy. He is also the guest professor of the College of Art and Architecture, Idaho University, USA and Art Dept. of Lehigh University, PA, USA. In addition, he also takes the office of vice chairman and director of academic committee of Jiangsu Art Education Academy and professor Art Dept. of Jiangsu Education Institute.


Prof. Cao's works have been shown, collected and rewarded by many national and international exhibitions. In 1988, he won the gold prize in HK "Chinese Painting Contest". In 1995, he got the "Supreme Award" in "Taiwan International Humanitarian Painters Exhibition". Moreover, in 1999, he had another gold prize in "International Professors' Art Work Show" which was held by UNESCO in Seoul, Korea.


His personal collections include "Cao Yingyi's Chinese Painting Selection", "Cao Yingyi's Sketching", "Paintings and Writings in Fu Niu Zhai". Besides, there are more theoretic books of his, such as "Skills and Education of Chinese Painting", "Examples of Sketching" and etc.


His brief biography was compiled in "Art Almanac of China in 1949 - 1999", "Dictionary of members of Association of Chinese Artists", "Chinese Artists: Painting", "Chinese Contemporary Directory" and "International Blue Book of British Cambridge (IBC)". He has also won the "Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Artists" by American Biographical Institute.


His representative works was collected in "Collections of Jiangsu Chinese Painting in the Past Fifty Years (1949 - 1999)", "the First Best Selection of Works of Members of Association of Chinese Artists", "Trip in Wuyuan - A Collection of Chinese Painting", "Collection of works of Contemporary famous Chinese Painters and Calligraphers" and so on.


Prof. Cao has visited America for three times as visiting scholar to give lectures and hold personal painting shows. His artistic achievement was applauded by American government and artistic circle. He was conferred the title of "Honorary Citizen" of Bethlehem, PA. And he was awarded as "Nine Distinguished Figures for the Arts and Humanities in West America" and won the "Mayor's Key" of Columbia City, SC.
